BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification)
BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification) is an email standard that attaches a company logo or easily identifiable image to your outgoing emails. This protocol adds another layer of protection to your outgoing mail due to making it much more difficult to spoof email coming from a particular domain. BIMI also helps to build brand visibility, allowing for businesses to ensure that their primary brand image is front and center for all emails coming from their domains.
How Does BIMI Work?
BIMI is a text record that is placed within your DNS records much in the same way that other email security protocols are implemented. Whenever you send out an email with BIMI settings in place under your domain, the recipient's mail server will look to see if a BIMI record exists within your DNS, and retrieve the image URL stored within this record and load it into the signature section of your message.
Does BIMI Impact Mail Deliverability?
At this current time, BIMI does not have a notable impact on mail deliverability due to the fact that a majority of mail services haven’t adopted the BIMI standard as of the time of writing this article. The only mail service currently supporting the BIMI standard is Yahoo mail.
While BIMI does add an additional layer of security to your outgoing messages, it will not affect your mail deliverability in any noticeable way until it is more widely adopted by other mail services.
